Baseball Splits With Lehman

The City College of New York baseball team split with CUNYAC opponent Lehman College on Saturday afternoon. In the first game, City won 2-1 as Sacha Urbach tied his career-high 10 strikeouts. Then Lehman took the second game defeating CCNY 8-4 where Anthony Cacchione was just a home-run away from hitting the cycle.

Game One
Lehman started it off right away with a base-hit. Getting through the inning it would only be one run off of two hits.

It looked like City might start off the first inning in a big way when both Anthony Cacchione and Michael Siklas walked. However, CCNY would be able to get nothing across.

It then became a pitchers duel as Urbach looked un-hittable. The same would go for the Lightning starter, Jose Albrincole. Urbach would not allow a hit until the sixth inning, but at that point he was dominating on the mound and nothing would come of it.

CCNY then came in for support for Urbach. Cacchione started the sixth inning with a lead-off single. Siklas followed that up with a triple, that would score Cacchione for a 1-1 tie game. Adrian Pena would then follow that up with a base-hit and score Siklas for the 2-1 lead. That would be all City would get across, but that was enough for the lead.

Urbach dominated in the seventh inning with Lehman going three-up, three-down. He threw a complete game, 10-strikeout victory for the Beavers.

Game Two
Cacchione took the mound for CCNY in game two and went through the first three batters with ease in the first inning.

He would then lead-off for the Beavers in the bottom of the first and double down the left field line. He would make it to third, but no one was able to bring him in for an early lead.

In the second inning, City started with Elmy Antonio's base-hit. He would advance to second on a passed ball and then advance to third off a sacrifice bunt from Matt Sola-Baker. Brendan Murphy then hit a sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Antonio for the 1-0 Beaver lead.

It would be a hot inning for Lehman in the third as City struggled defensively. The Lightning scored five runs off of just three hits for a 5-1 lead.

However, City would not let them walk away with a victory that easy. Cacchione hit a bomb to center field that put him at third base to start the inning. Siklas was walked and then stole second to bring Pena up to bat. Pena was also walked to load the bases. Rob Mandich's sacrifice fly to right field brought in Cacchione. Antonio singled down the right field line to bring in both Pena and Siklas. That would be all as City trailed 5-4.

Cacchione would continue to battle Lehman on the mound, but the team struggled on defense. In the fourth, fifth and sixth inning, the Lightning scored one run each inning.

As hard as City fought, Lehman was able to be one step ahead of them in game two.

Steven Giglio came in to pitch the final inning for CCNY and left the Lightning hitless as he struck out one to end the game. Lehman took the second game 8-4.

Cacchione had quite the game as he pitched six inning and struck out five. He gave up eight runs, but only two were earned. On the batting side, Cacchione was just a home-run away from the cycle as he went three-for-three.

The Beavers host Baruch for their final home game of the season on Sunday, April 17 at 12pm. The game will be played at Salesian High School in New Rochelle, New York.
