The City College of New York baseball team fell 9-0 to New York University on Friday afternoon at MCU Park in Brooklyn, New York.
NYU started off the game strong with a three-run first inning. City would struggle at the plate against Johnstone.
Steven Giglio would start on the mound for the Beavers and he would pitch 4.0 inning and give up four runs, two of which were earned. The rookie would strikeout two in the loss.
Neither team could get anything going until the fourth inning. The Violets added one more run to take a 4-0 lead. It would still be a battle at the plate for CCNY, and Johnstone held onto a no-hitter through five.
Jeffrey Diaz came in for the fifth inning followed by Josef Bystrik who appeared on the mound in the sixth. Bystrik gave up one hit, but both pitchers were able to shut down the Violets.
The Violets were holding onto a no-hitter until
Edgar Arango came up in the sixth inning and singled to left field.
Lorenzo Hiraldo and
Cal Romano pitched the seventh inning. Hiraldo gave up five runs, four of which were earned. Romano finished off the final out of the seventh inning to stop the inning with NYU holding a 9-0 lead.
Eric Giglio pitched the eighth inning and shutdown the Violets in the hopes the Beavers could make up some ground in the ninth inning.
Anthony Cacchione would record the only other hit for City in the ninth inning as CCNY fell 9-0.
City will travel to face John Jay in their final games of the regular season. The game will be played at Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, New York. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
