Baseball Splits With John Jay In Regular Season Finale

The City College of New York baseball team split with John Jay in their final CUNYAC doubleheader of the regular season. The Bloodhounds took game one with a 5-1 victory, but CCNY grabbed game two defeating John Jay 7-1.

Game One
City started the game off by taking the lead in the first inning. After Anthony Cacchione was walked, Michael Siklas came up to bat. Siklas doubled and brought in Cacchione for an early 1-0 lead.

Nither team would get anything across and it became a pitchers deul for the win. With Sacha Urbach on the mound for the Beavers, he put up solid numbers against the conference foes.

In the fifth inning, John Jay would tie the game 1-1. 

It would then become the Bloodhounds game. In the sixth inning John Jay scored four 5-1 lead.

After 5.1 innings, Urbach would be replaced by Jeffrey Diaz. Urbach ended his night with eight strikeouts, four walks, five runs, four of them were earned. In his 0.2 innings pitched, Diaz struck out both batters he faced. 

The Beavers were unable to come up with any runs in the seventh inning and with that John Jay took game one.

Game Two
The start of game two was very similar to game one. Cacchione would record a base-hit and move to second on a groundout by Siklas. Adrian Pena then singled to right field to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. 

Anthony Cacchione, would who also pitch during this game, was on the mound for CCNY. He would retire the Bloodhounds in order in the first inning. 

RJ Saint-Hillaire led off the third inning with a base-hit to right field. He would steal second before advancing to third on a base-hit from Elmy Antonio. Siklas sent one right up the middle to score both Saint-Hillaire and Antonio. CCNY took a 3-0 lead after three.

Joseph DeCarlo started off the fourth inning with a double sent to left field. Uche Nwokelo would reach on an error. Brendan Murphy then doubled down the left field line to score DeCarlo and advance Nwokelo to third. Saint-Hillaire then sent on through the gap up the middle to score both Nwokelo and Murphy. CCNY held onto a 6-0 lead after four inning. 

Cacchione was throwing fire off the mound as he has only allowed one hit through four innings. 

CCNY added one more run in the fifth inning. Pena led-off with a base-hit and then advanced to second on an error and finally advanced to third. He would score on a wild pitch for the Beavers one run. City took a 7-0 lead after five.

It was another one-two-three inning for the lefy Cacchione. 

John Jay recorded one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but that was all CCNY would allow. City took the second game 7-1.

On the mound, Cacchione pitched a complete game victory for CCNY. He struck out seven and gave up just one run off of three hits. 

The CUNYAC postseason tournament begins on Thursday, May 5. The seeding and schedule will be release by the conference on Sunday, May 1.
