Baseball Topped by Baruch

The City College of New York baseball team was topped 9-5 by Baruch.

Sacha Urbach, starting on the mound for the Beavers had a quick three-up, three-down first inning.

City's offense would also start three-up, three-down in the first inning as both pitchers went right through the order.

Urbach continued his dominance in the second inning. While he did walk three Bearcats, the Beavers were able to get out of the inning without giving up a run as he struck out the final two batters in the inning.

It looked like City might get things started in the second when Elmy Antonio recorded the first hit of the game. He was soon after picked off at first and heading into the third the score remained 0-0.

Baruch put up the first run of the game in the third inning. After hitting a batter, Baruch doubled to left field to bring in the first run for a 1-0 lead. Baruch added one more in the top of the fourth for a 2-0 lead.

City responded quickly in the fourth. Michael Siklas singled followed by Adrian Pena. Both advanced on a wild pitch and Rob Mandich was walked to load the bases. Right after that Elmy Antonio was walked to bring in Siklas and keep the bases loaded. The Beavers continued to keep the bases loaded when Uche Nwokelo was hit by a pitch that brought in Pena. Eric Giglio continued to watch and reached after being walked, he scored Mandich for a 3-2 City lead.

The Bearcats followed that with two runs of their own in the fifth inning that gave them back a 4-3 lead.

Starting off the Beavers in the fifth inning was Adrian Pena who doubled for the 26th time in his career. Right after that, Mandich would hit his first collegiate home-run. Mandich gave the Beavers a 5-4 lead.

Cal Romano came in to pitch the sixth inning for the Beavers after a solid performance by Urbach. Urbach finished his start with six strikeouts and just giving up four runs.
Baruch had a huge sixth inning where they would score five runs off of five hits to take a 9-5 lead.

Jeffrey Diaz came in and pitched a shutout seventh inning. Unfortunately, CCNY was unable to get anything across to take back the lead and Baruch took the game 9-5.
It would be a doubleheader, but with the snow and rain it was just the one game. The second game of the doubleheader will be played tomorrow.
