New York, NY - The CCNY women's volleyball program picked up its first win of the 2017 season on Sunday afternoon, defeating Yeshiva University in straight sets.
Junior
Camila Franco-Diaz recorded a double-double with a team-high 10 kills and 12 digs. Freshmen
Yana Shaposhnikova recorded a team-high 11 points with her second consecutive double-digit dig effort of 12. She also chipped in with a match-high seven aces, along with four kills. Freshmen
Christine Rosa had a match-high 20 assists.
Junior
Yasmine Bachtarzi finshed with six kills, while senior
Irishvarsha Iyyadurai added nine digs and three kills
CCNY battled through and eked out set one 25-23. The Lavender & Black offensive excelled in sets two and three, leading to 25-18 and 25-10 decisions.
The Beavers and Maccabees knotted the score 11 times in the opening set. The Beavers were able to push forward, due in large part to three service aces. Shaposhnikoua had three of her seven aces late in the first set to help carry the Beavers momentum. The Beavers recorded three kills over their final five points to secure the first set.
Come set two, there was no looking back for the Beavers following a 7-1 run midway through the set. CCNY took the set due in large part to a 61% hitting percentage. The Maccabees helped out the cause by committing six attacking errors.
In set three, CCNY would pull away from Yeshiva early in the set, closing the match with a 17-3 run to give themselves a 25-10 set victory.
CCNY's next match is against the Albertus Magnus Falcons on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The serve tees up in New Haven, Conn at 7:00 PM.
