New York, NY - The CCNY men's cross country team is set to compete on Sunday at the 2018 CUNY Athletic Conference Championships, hosted at Van Cortlandt Park.
The Beavers will compete in 8K course at Van Cortlandt Park, stating at 10:30 am.
The two-time defending champions are in the hunt for their fourth team title in program history. The Beavers are looking for a three-peat, a feat only accomplished previously by Hunter (1995-99, 2001-05 and 2009-12) and Staten Island (2013-15).
CCNY was picked to finish first in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Beavers will compete against the other eight conference schools, Brooklyn, Baruch, John Jay, Lehman, Hunter, Medgar Evers, York, and Staten Island.
Last year, the Beavers had five runners place within the top-15. The squad has been led this season by junior
Merlin Padilla Jr., who comes into Sunday's race with the fastest mark of 26:26.0. Padilla Jr. will be accompanied by returning All-Conference runners sophomore
Muhammed Qadri, junior
Joseph Espinoza, and senior
Albert Leonardo.
