MORRISTOWN, NJ - The CCNY Baseball team split their doubleheader against Centenary University on Saturday, dropping game one, 15-13, in five innings, and taking game two, 6-2, in six innings to move to 4-6 on the season.
GAME ONE FINAL: Centenary 15 | CCNY 13
The Beavers came out swinging in the top of the first inning, After
Cooper York advanced to first on a hit by pitch, sophomore
Stephen Peters singled to the shortstop. Junior
Rob Mandich knocked in York and Peters on a two-RBI double to left field, giving the Beavers an early 2-0 lead. Senior
Anthony Cacchione followed with an RBI double to left field, taking a 3-0 lead after one inning.
Centenary responded with a run of their own in the second inning. Michael Caprari provided an RBI single to left field to cut into Lavender & Black's lead.
Peters led off the third with a triple to left field. In the next at-bat, Mandich scored Peters on a sacrifice fly ball to go up, 4-1.
The Cyclones would take the lead in third innings, capitalizing on five hits and scoring four runs to hold a 5-4 lead.
Centenary tacked on another run in the fourth frame on an RBI single.
The Beavers added five runs in the top of the fifth, two coming on
Sardar Khanbilvardi's single, another pair off
Anthony Sautter's double and one more in the inning off
Andrew Lopez's double.
Once again though, Centenary responded in the bottom of the frame. The home team tallied nine run in the inning to jump out to a 15-9 lead.
The Beavers would secure four more runs across the final two innings, but would fall in the first game of the day, 15-13.

After a scoreless first inning, CCNY got things going in the top of the second.
Sardar Khanbilvardi led off with a triple to center field and scored on
Anthony Sautter's RBI single.
In the fourth, sophomore
Brandon Gianikos blasted a triple RBI to left field, knocking in Sautter, for a 2-0 lead. On the next at-bat, senior
Edgar Arango batted in Gianikos on a base hit up the middle, taking a 3-0 advantage over the Cyclones.
York started off the fifth inning with a walk and stole second, while Peters would double to right field in the next at-bat. With two runners on, Cacchione brought home both on a two-RBI single to left center, extending CCNY's lead to 5-0.
The Beavers scored their sixth and final run in the sixth inning, after
Gianikos doubled to center field and scored York's RBI double to left field.
Junior
Steven Giglio earned the win for the CCNY. Giglio pitched 4.2 innings for the Beavers, striking out one, striking out six batters and letting up three hits.
Eight Beavers tallied one or more hits, including Gianikos who led the way offensively, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI.
