Staten Island, NY - The CCNY baseball team earned a two-game sweep in today's doubleheader at the College of Staten Island, claiming victories of 3-2 in Game One and 7-5 in Game Two.
The Beavers move to 10-15 overall this season and 6-2 in conference play.
Game 1: CCNY 3, Staten Island 2
In the opener, Staten Island got on the board in the top of the first with a pair of runs on three hits to give themselves a 2-0 advantage.
Three innings later, the Beavers evened the score. Sophomore
Stephen Peters scored the first run on an unearned run on a throwing error. With two outs, junior
Sardar Khanbilvardi struck an RBI single into the centerfield to make the score 2-2.
With two out and a runner on third in the top of the sixth inning, Khanbilvadi ripped a double into left field to plate both runners for the go-ahead run (3-2).
Khanbilvadi had two of CCNY's four hits in the win.
Game 2: CCNY 7, Staten Island 5
The Beavers claimed the first advantage with a run in the second inning as Khanbilvadi batted in senior
Anthony Cacchione on an RBI double.
The Dolphins gained the lead in the bottom of the second, off a two-run double from Nouvertne.
CCNY was able to knot the game up in the fourth inning, on
Brandon Gianikos' RBI single to right-field.
With the game tied 2-2 midway through the sixth, CCNY created a three-run rally with two outs in the top half of the inning. With runners on the corners,
Eric Giglio singled in a run to put the Beavers ahead one score before
Cooper York's RBI single gave the team a 4-2 lead. Peters provided the final RBI of the inning with a single up the middle to give the Lavender & Black a 5-2 lead.
CSI responded quickly with two back-to-back runs on an RBI walk and a sacrifice fly ball to bring the game within one run.
Holding a 5-4, the Beavers added two more tallies in the seventh inning. With two outs, sophomore
Hamley Volquez tripled to left center for a two-run score, giving the Beavers a 7-4 lead.
CSI was able to score one run in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk, but CCNY was able to hold off the Dolphins to secure a 7-5 win.

Anthony Cacchione picked up the victory, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing seven hits, four runs and four strikeouts.
Next on the docket for CCNY is a trip to Maritime College on Tuesday for a 7:00 pm non-conference start.
