John Jay Tops CCNY Baseball In Doubleheader

BROOKLYN, NY - The CCNY baseball team fell to John Jay College in a CUNY Athletic Conference doubleheader at MCU Park. The Bloodhounds took the opener 8-5 in extra innings before taking the nightcap in a 9-2 win over the Beavers.

Game 1: John Jay 8, CCNY 5
Junior Rob Mandich and junior Sardar Khanbilvardi and senior Anthony Cacchione each had two hits in the opener to lead the Beavers. Mandich accounted for two of the team's five runs batted in, the first coming off a single up the middle and the second by a solo homer to left field.

Junior RHP Cal Romano took the loss for the Lavender & Black, tossing 7.2 innings of the contest.

Game 2: John Jay 9, CCNY 2
In the nightcap, John Jay plated nine runs on 11 hits to earn the victory.

Cacchione tossed 4.0 innings, striking out four batters before sophomore RHP Christian Barletta came in on relief, throwing the final 2.0 innings.

Mandich was 1-for-2, including a solo home run in the fourth inning. Sophomore Cooper York, freshman Chris Moreno, senior Anthony Sautter, and sophomore Stephen Peters each had singles in the loss.

CCNY returns to action tomorrow at home against Western Connecticut State. Game one of the doubleheader is slated to start at 11:00 am.
