NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The City College of New York baseball team improved to 12-18 his season following a pair of wins over Western Connecticut State University on Sunday.
Game 1: CCNY 8, Western Conn. 2
Western Connecticut scored the first run of the game in the top of the third on an RBI triple.
The Beavers evened the game in the bottom of the fourth. Senior
Anthony Cacchione singled in sophomore
Stephen Peters for the teams first run. Three at-bats later, CCNY created a 3-1 lead when junior
Eric Giglio lanch a two-RBI triple to right center.
The Colonies cut the Beavers lead down to one run in the sixth frame, plating a run on a fielders choice RBI.
Leading 3-2, the Lavender & Black rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Eric Giglio picked up his third RBI of the game with a two-run single to the second basemen.
Hamley Volquez kept the momentum going as he batted in Giglio and Sardar Khanbilvadi on a two-RBI triple to center field to make it 7-2. Volquez would score the fifth run of the frame on the interference call to put the Beavers up 8-2.
Junior
Steven Giglio earned the win, tossing 5.0 innings with two strikeouts, four scoreless innings, and just two hit allowed.
Game 2: CCNY 9, Western Conn. 8
The Beavers had a huge first inning, combining for four runs on four hits. Sophomore

Brandon Gianikos singled in Peter to go-ahead two-runs.
In next at-bat, senior
Anthony Sautter singled in Cacchione.
Eric Giglio plated the fourth run on an RBI fielders choice.
In the second, CCNY pushed their lead to a 7-0. Peters singled home classmate
Cooper York for the teams fifth run. With one runner on base,
Rob Mandich hit his third home run of the weekend to push the Beavers ahead 7-0.
In the fourth inning, Western Connecticut ended the shutout with an RBI double.
Trailing 7-1 run heading into the top of the fifth, the Colonies were able to produce seven runs with five hits and one error to capture the lead. Postorino single in the first run. Western Conn. earned back-to-back runs on RBI walks. Logan Terry brought the game within one run, with a single through the right side. During the next at-bat, Echevarria gave Colonies the advantage by a two-RBI single to take an 8-7 lead.
Down by one, the Beavers were quick with a response, chalking up two runs in the top of the fifth to retake the lead.
Eric Giglio scored the first tally on Yorks' sacrifice bunt. Peters plated go-ahead run of the inning on RBI single.
CCNY is next in action on Tuesday, in a non-conference tilt against Purchase College.
