Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Medgar Evers

New York, N.Y.  – The CCNY women's volleyball team defended their home court on Thursday, where the Beavers defeated Medgar Evers College in three sets to pick up the conference win. 

CCNY improves to 5-5 overall with the win, while Medgar falls to 1-9.

The Beavers opened the match with a 14-0 run to claim an early advantage over the Cougars. The lead grew to 17 points when CCNY took a 19-2 edge. The Beavers wrapped the set up with a 25-12 win to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The second frame started with CCNY running out to an 8-2 lead. After Medgar brought the set with three points (14-11), the Beavers closed it out for a 25-17 victory to take a 2-0 edge in the match.

Medgar Evers found some momentum to kick off the third set, building to a 5-0 lead early on in the game. The Cougars held a sized lead for much of the third set before the Beavers were able to tie the game at 15-15. The Beavers would finish things off with a 10-1 run to close out the match.

CCNY was led by Kayla Oge, who threw down a season-high 11 kills while hitting .526 in the match. Nicole Polanco hit .385 with seven kills, seven aces, and eight digs. Nadia Campoverde picked up six kills and eight digs. 

Rachel Ramirez put down five kills and had a pair of service aces. Karyna Yanovska added a season-high four kills while Dzeneta Harambasic dished out a match-high 28 assist.

The Beavers next play on Saturday, Sept. 22, when they travel out to eastern Long Island for a non-conference tri-match at St. Joseph College - Long Island. The Beavers will take on both St. Joseph-LI and York College.
