MORRISTOWN, NJ -- On Tuesday night, the City College of New York women's volleyball team (9-8) suffered a 25-7, 25-23, 27-25 loss to host Saint Elizabeth (9-10) at Luing Gymnasium.

The Eagles controlled the first set from the start.  CCNY didn't score more than two consecutive points during the entire period, as Saint Elizabeth notched a 25-7 win to go up 1-0 in the match.

Saint Elizabeth then jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the second set before the Beavers got back within one at 6-5.  After the Eagles extended the margin to four points at 12-8, CCNY went on an 8-3 run to take the lead, 16-15.  Saint Elizabeth responded with three straight points to go back in front, but the Beavers rallied to pull ahead 21-20 on Dzeneta Harambasic's (Ridgewood, NY) service ace.  The Eagles countered with a 3-0 spurt of their own, though, and eventually claimed the set by a 25-23 count.

In the third set, there were six ties and three lead changes.  Saint Elizabeth took an early 5-3 lead, but the Beavers captured the next six points to pull in front 9-6.  CCNY held a four-point advantage at 16-12 before the Eagles rallied to tie it at 16-16.  It was then the Beavers' turn to go on a run, as CCNY outscored Saint Elizabeth 5-1 to build a 21-17 cushion.

After the Eagles once again tied the score at 22-22, Kayla Oge (New City, NY) smashed a kill and followed with a block to give CCNY two set point opportunities.  The Beavers had another set point at 25-24, but each time Saint Elizabeth responded.  The Eagles scored the final three points of the contest, converting on their first chance to close it out.  Saint Elizabeth won the set, 27-25, to finish off a 3-0 victory.

Rachel Ramirez (New York, NY) paced the Beavers with seven kills, and she also notched five digs and four aces.  Harambasic finished with 16 assists and eight digs, while Nicole Polanco (West Haverstraw, NY) tallied seven digs.

For the Eagles, Yas Muhammed led the way with eight kills.  Maura Farley had seven kills and six digs to go along with 17 assists, while Diane Cuevas distrbuted 10 assists.  Jora Nivar contributed 10 digs, as Saint Elizabeth outdug CCNY 34-30.  The Eagles hit a combined .214 (33 kills, 15 errors, 84 attempts) as a team.

CCNY returns home on Thursday night, for a 7 p.m. matchup with Medgar Evers.  This will be the second meeting of the season between the CUNYAC rivals, but will count as a non-conference match.  Prior to the contest, the Beavers will honor their four seniors--Harambasic, Polanco, Oge and Leanna Pham (Bronx, NY).
