COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The CCNY baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Ursinus College on Sunday in non-conference action. The Grizzly Bear took the opener 8-6 behind a four-run sixth inning and close out the day with a 17-3 victory in game two.
Game One: Ursinus 8, CCNY 6
In the opener, CCNY got on the board first, as junior
Stephen Peters notched an unearned run on a fielding error.
In the second inning, Ursinus drove in four runs to jump out to a 4-1 lead.
The Beavers used a four-run fifth inning to erase a 4-1 deficit. After freshman
Sean Riera doubled to right center to start off the fifth, freshman
Ethan Angress singled up the middle for an RBI base hit. Four at-bats later, With two on,
Michael Espinal ripped a three-homerun down the right field line to put CCNY up 5-4.
Ursinus answered back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth, scoring runs on two hits and one error to go up 8-5.
With one out, the Beavers were able to score one run in the seventh after Peters scored on Espinal's RBI single. But Ursinus was able to hold CCNY off for the victory.
Freshman
Alex Velazquez tossed five innings allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out eight.
Game Two: Ursinus 17, CCNY 3
CCNY scored two in the third. Junior
Cooper York doubled to right center to plate
Ethan Angress for the first score. An at-bat later, York reached home on a passed ball. York brought in the Beavers third run on an RBI groundout in the seventh inning.
Sophomore
Michael Espinal led the Beavers in the game two with two hits. York recorded a hit, one run and two RBI in the contest.
The Lavender & Black are back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 26 when they travel to Delaware Valley University in Doylestown. First pitch is slated for 3:30 pm.
