NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The CCNY baseball program dropped a pair of non-conference games to Skidmore College on Sunday at Fr. John Blanco Ball Park in New Rochelle, NY. The Beavers fell, 5-3, in game one, before falling 12-6 in the nightcap.
Prior to the game, CCNY Baseball program held its annual senior night ceremony honor graduating seniors
Steven Giglio,
Cal Romano, and
Rob Mandich.
GAME 1: Skidmore 5, CCNY 3
In game one, Skidmore got on the boards first, scoring three runs in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the third, junior
Stephen Peters drove in
Cooper York on an RBI triple to center field, cutting Skidmore's lead to two runs, 3-1.
A run in the fourth and a solo homer in the fifth inning helped Thoroughbreds extend their lead to 5-1.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, CCNY put together a mini-rally. After senior
Rob Mandich singled through the left side, junior
Hamley Volquez notched a two-run homer to left field to make it 5-3.
Volquez led the Beavers offensively with two RBI on two hits in addition to one run. Mandich, Peters, and York each registered a hit apiece for CCNY.
GAME 2: Skidmore 12, CCNY 6
CCNY opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Josh Moreno scored the team's first run. An at-bat later, Volquez tripled to center field to score Mandich and Peters.
Skidmore plated a run in the second inning, on an RBI sacrifice fly by Zack Bunker and another run in the third on Will Potter's RBI single through the left side.
A groundout RBI by Mandich and an RBI base hit to left field by
Benjamin Jacquez III in the bottom third boosted the Beavers lead 5-2.
The Beavers added another run in the fourth frame when J. Moreno singled to right-center field, giving the Lavender & Black a 6-2 advantage.
In the fifth, Skidmore rallied big, scoring seven runs in the inning. On four hits, including a grand slam home run from Jake Hardy, the Thoroughbreds jumped out to a 9-2 lead.
The Thoroughbreds added insurance runs in the final two innings, scoring a run in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Mandich and Volquez finished with two RBI in the nightcap while York had two hits and Peters had two runs scored.
The Beavers return back to the diamond on Saturday, Apr. 13 at the College of New Rochelle in Ardsley, NY.
