Throggs Neck, N.Y. - The CCNY women's volleyball team dropped its season opener to Maritime College in four sets (15-25, 25-15, 24-26, 19-25) on Tuesday evening.
Senior
Nicole Polanco led the attack for the Beavers with a career and match-high 15 kills, 11 digs, and two aces. Junior
Rachel Ramirez record seven kills, 11 digs, three blocks, and two aces. Sophomore
Nadia Campoverde had a productive outing, ending with seven kills, 13 digs, and two aces.
Freshman
Scarle Mejia led the Beavers with 23 assists, four service aces, and three digs in her collegiate debut. Junior
Melanie Torres finished the match with a career-high three blocks, along with two kills.
Maritime took the first set 25-15, boosting a 0.294 team hitting percentage. CCNY bounced back in the second set, 25-15, behind a great defensive effort holding the Privateers to a -0.045 hitting percentage.
A close third set would end in the Privateers favors, as they capitalized on six errors by CCNY. Maritime ended the match in the fourth set, taking the frame 25-19.
CCNY returns to action on Thursday traveling to take on the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Conn.
