Beavers Drop Non-Conference Finale at Cairn

LANGHORNE, PA – The City College of New York men's basketball team began a four-game road trip on Saturday afternoon with a visit to Cairn.  In their final non-conference tilt of the season, the Beavers (1-18) fell to the Highlanders (12-8) by an 87-52 count at the Mason Activity Center.

Cairn scored the first eight points of the game and led 20-5 after just six minutes.  The Beavers used a 7-4 run to get back within 12 at 24-12, but the Highlanders outscored CCNY 23-12 over the final 11 minutes of the half to increase their cushion to 47-22.

After the margin reached a game-high 37 points at 73-36, the Beavers went on a 13-8 spurt to trim their deficit to 81-49 with 2:33 remaining.  CCNY would get no closer, however, as Cairn earned an 87-52 victory.

Daniel Piszczatowski (Middle Village, NY) paced the Beavers with 15 points, and he added three assists.  Yassine Sakhi (New York, NY) finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while Romello Rashad (New York, NY) nearly had a double-double with nine points and eight boards.  He also distributed four assists.  Torrel Trim (Springfield Gardens, NY), meanwhile, grabbed six rebounds.  As a team, CCNY shot 38.8 percent (19-of-49) from the field, 33.3 percent (3-of-9) from long range, and 68.8 percent (11-of-16) at the free throw line.

For the Highlanders, Brennan Addley led the way with 18 points and five rebounds.  Jeremiah Harris contributed 12 points and six assists, while Julian Colazzo finished with 11 points and seven assists.  Malachi Hall also had 11 points to go along with five boards.  Cairn shot a combined 54 percent (34-of-63) from the floor, 35.7 percent (10-of-28) from downtown, and 47.4 percent (9-of-19) at the charity stripe.

CCNY (0-8 CUNYAC) resumes its CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) schedule on Tuesday night with an 8 p.m. visit to first-place John Jay (15-5, 8-1 CUNYAC).  The Bloodhounds notched a 76-74 victory over the Beavers when the squads met at Nat Holman Gymnasium on Dec. 6.
