NEW YORK – Senior City College of New York women's volleyball player Leanna Pham (Bronx, NY) has been named Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention by the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).  A communications major, she has been named to both the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll every semester she's been eligible.

"Words can't express my appreciation," Pham said about the recognition.  "I've learned that the effort you put into working hard at practices and preparing for games should be shown 10 times more in the classroom.  Never stop working hard towards your future and don't forget the people who supported you along the way."

"There is no person more committed to the program than Leanna," Head Coach Andrijana Todorovic added.  "She's the first in the classroom, she's the first at practice, she's the first to motivate others, and she equally loves everything she does.  Every team should have a Leanna Pham.  I cannot express how proud I am of Leanna and what she has accomplished in the past few years."

Pham was a four-year letterwinner for the Beavers, appearing in 86 matches as a libero/defensive specialist.  She tallied 221 digs, 23 service aces and 21 assists during her career and helped CCNY make three CUNYAC Tournament appearances, including a semifinal berth this season.  In addition, Pham served as a manager for the men's volleyball team.

The CUNYAC annually recognizes senior student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom with the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, which is presented by the Hospital for Special Surgery.  Honorable mention selections will be announced throughout the coming weeks, followed by the Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
