Bronx, NY - The City College of New York women's volleyball team notched their first conference victory, defeating Lehman College in four sets on Friday night. The team improves to 2-10 overall, and 1-2 in CUNY Athletic Conference play.
Freshman Bianka Catral had a breakout performance for the Beavers to lead CCNY in the victory. She finished the night with a double-double, registering a season-high 15 kills and 18 digs. Freshman Natalia Abreu piled up 14 kills, four aces, and six digs. Michelle Hu added nine kills, nine digs, and three service aces.
Freshman Viviana Alatorre picked up a season-high 32 assists, while Rachael Reyes totaled eight digs. Freshman Jafriesy Ovalle collected five digs and four aces.
The Beavers took the opening set, earning a 25-16 victory. CCNY controlled the second period, securing a 25-12 win. A back-and-forth third set ended in the Lightenings favor, closing out the period with a 25-23 win. The Beavers rebounded in the fourth frame, pulling out a 25-22 set win to finish the evening.
The Beavers return to their home court next Tuesday, Oct. 19, when they host Baruch College at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
