New York, NY - The City College of New York women's volleyball team fell on the road Wednesday evening, suffering a three-set loss to John Jay College, 25-21, 25-20, and 25-14. The setback drops the Beavers to 1-7.
Freshman Viviana Alatorre and Natalia Abreu led the Beavers with five kills each. Alatorre also added a team-high nine digs and a pair of aces. Freshman Bianka Catral finished with four kills and seven digs, while freshman Jafriesy Ovalle totaled five digs.
After falling behind to John Jay 20-10 to open the first set, the Beavers put together a 10-0 run to tie the set at 20-20. The Bloodhounds closed out the period with a 5-1 run to take the first set. After a back-and-forth second set, John Jay came out on top, 25-20. The Bloodhounds controlled the final set, pulling out a 25-14 victory.
CCNY hit .026 (17-15-76) as a team, while the Bloodhounds hit .126 (33-21-95).
Next, the Beavers return to John Jay for a CUNYAC tri-match hosted by the Bloodhounds on Saturday, Oct. 9. CCNY takes on Hunter College in their first match at noon and closes out the day against John Jay at 2:00 p.m.
