Women’s Volleyball Falls in CUNYAC Quarterfinals to John Jay

New York, NY - The fifth-seeded CCNY women's volleyball team's run in the 2021 CUNYAC Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament ended on Tuesday, as the Beavers fell in three sets to No. 4 John Jay College in the quarterfinal round. 

After falling behind 12-6 to start the match, the Beavers went on a 13-8 run to tie the contest at 20-20. CCNY held the lead twice in the final stretch of the frame, but the Bloodhounds nearly pulled out a 25-23 set victory.

John Jay controlled the second set from the opening serve, building an eight-point lead early, 12-4. The Bloodhounds would go on to take the set, 25-17.

In the third stanza, the Bloodhounds jumped out to a quick 10-0 run en-route to closing out the match with a 25-17 victory.

Michelle Hu had a career and match-high 24 digs in the loss. Freshman Natalia Abreu had a team-high seven kills and three digs. Freshman Bianka Catral added six kills and three digs. Freshman Viviana Alatorre dished out a team-high 17 assists, while Nadia Campoverde finished with six digs. Freshman Jafriesy Ovalle picked up three kills and two digs.

The Beavers will close out the season on Sunday, Nov. 7, taking on the Yeshiva University Maccabees on the road at 3:00 p.m.
