NEW YORK – Over the next few weeks, the City College of New York Athletic Department will be honoring its graduating student-athletes who, due to the cancellation of the 2020-21 season, didn't get the chance to celebrate a traditional "Senior Day" this year.  The first group of seniors who will be recognized are from the CCNY cross country/track & field squad.

Muhammed Qadri was a key member of eight CUNYAC championship teams (three cross country, three indoor, two outdoor).  He's a seven-time CUNYAC All-Star and was also named to the 2019 CUNYAC All-Sportsmanship Team for cross country.  In addition, Qadri earned a bronze medal in the 800 meters at the 2020 ECAC Indoor Championships.

Sabrina Diaz competed for CCNY during the 2018 and 2019 outdoor seasons, as well as the 2020 indoor campaign.  She was sixth in the 5000 meters at the 2018 CUNYAC Outdoor Championships, then captured the bronze medal in that event in 2019.

Tyesha (Desiree) Irving earned CUNYAC All-Star honors three times during her career.  She won back-to-back CUNYAC indoor titles in the 60 meter hurdles (2019-20), and also took second in the high jump at the 2020 meet.  She was fourth in the 100 meter hurdles at the 2019 CUNYAC Outdoor Championships and competed in the high jump at the 2019 ECAC Outdoor Championships.

Amy Jacob was one of the Beavers' top cross country runners in 2019.  She finished 22nd at the CUNYAC Cross Country Championships, then notched a personal-best time of 31:27.0 at the 2019 NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships.  At the 2020 CUNYAC Indoor Championships, Jacob helped the Beavers claim the team title by placing fourth in the 3000 meters, seventh in the mile and eighth in the 800 meters.

Avery Maillet is a three-time All-American and two-time Academic All-American.  Maillet qualified for the NCAA Championships four times, finishing eighth in the long jump at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships.  She was twice named CUNYAC Track Performer of the Year (2019 outdoors, 2020 indoors), and earned Most Outstanding Performer honors at three CUNYAC Championship meets (2018 indoors, 2019 outdoors, 2020 indoors).

Lucy Piacentini also collected numerous accolades throughout her time at CCNY.  She's a four-time CUNYAC All-Star and earned CUNYAC Field Performer of the Year during both the 2018-19 and 2019-20 indoor seasons.  Piacentini was also chosen as the Most Outstanding Performer at the 2018 CUNYAC Outdoor Championships, and was named to the CUNYAC All-Sportsmanship Team during the 2018 outdoor campaign, as well.

Claudia Serna provided the Beavers with valuable versatility, regularly competing in both the throws and the distance events at the same meet.  At the 2019 CUNYAC Outdoor Championships, she was fifth in the 10,000 meters and eighth in the discus.  Serna then took fifth in both the 3000 meters and weight throw at the 2020 CUNYAC Indoor Championships.

Tia Tyrell competed in every event from 60 to 5000 meters, as well as cross country, during her time with the Beavers.  She was twice named a CUNYAC All-Star (2018 outdoors, 2020 indoors) and won the 2018 CUNYAC championship in the 3000 meter steeplechase.  Tyrell was also selected to the CUNYAC All-Sportsmanship Team for the 2019-20 indoor season.
