CCNY Men's Basketball knocked off by Lehman in CUNYAC Opener, 81-70

The Bronx, NY - The City College of New York men's basketball team returned to action on Monday, dropping their first CUNY Athletic Conference matchup on the road to Lehman College, 81-70. The Beavers fall to 4-6 on the season and 0-1 in league play.

Sophomore Yassine Sakhi led the Beavers with 26 points, shooting 11-of-18 from the field. Junior Dashaun Galloway picked up his second double-double of the season with 14 points and ten rebounds. Sophomore Amir Assani netted his sixth double-figure outing, scoring 11 points, along with nine rebounds and four assists.

Junior Daniel Piszczatowski added eight points and a season-high ten rebounds. Freshman Bayame Bah matched his career-high of ten rebounds while collecting seven points and dished two assists.

After a slow start, the Beavers fell behind by as much as 15 points (36-21) in the opening half. With under five minutes remaining in the half, a basket from Piszczatowski sparked a late 12-3 scoring run to CCNY's deficit to single digits at halftime, 39-33.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Galloway to open the second half helped cut Lehman's advantage to two points. The Lightning clamped down on the defensive end, forcing four turnovers to ignite a 7-2 run, jumping to an eight-point led (49-41) with 15:29 to go.

After holding Lehman's lead margin to single digits for much of the half, Lehman used a 13-5 scoring run to own a 15-point lead (74-59) with 2:30 remaining. The Lightning closed out the game, securing an 81-70 victory.

CCNY finished with a 49-46 rebounding advantage and forced 16 turnovers. The Lightning outshot the Beavers 38.9% to 37.3% in the contest.

The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 12, on the road against Medgar Evers College at 7:00 p.m
