New York, NY - The CCNY men's basketball team's late rally fell short Tuesday evening, as the Baruch College held off the Beavers to earn an 81-73 CUNY Athletic Conference victory. The Beavers fall to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in league play.
Sophomore
Amir Assani led the Beavers with 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting, adding seven rebounds, six assists, and three assists. Freshman
Jordan Williams posted 16 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench.
Sophomore
Yassine Sakhi notched 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Junior
Daniel Piszczatowski added 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Junior
Dashaun Galloway finished with four points, five rebounds, four assists, and a block. Freshman
Bayame Bah chipped in four points, two rebounds, and two blocks.
The Bearcats built an eight-point margin (27-19) with 8:13 left to play in the first half after a dunk by Mohamed Gueye capped a 10-5 scoring run. The Beavers would ignite a run of their own, outscoring Baruch 11-2 to jump out head 30-29 with 4:33 remaining in the period. The Bearcats closed out the period strong leading CCNY, 41-33.
Trailing by 11 points (73-62) with 2:11 left in regulation, three straight points from Assani helped spark a 9-3 run for the Beavers, cutting the Bearcats lead to single digits (76-71) with 32 seconds on the clock. The Bearcats took advantage of late fouls to pull away with an 81-73 victory.
The Beavers continue conference play tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 26, when they host Baruch Colege at the Nat Holman Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
