Throggs Neck, NY - The City College of New York men's basketball program picked up their first win of the 2022-23 season on Monday night, holding off Maritime College, 64-63, on the road. The Beavers improve to 1-2 with the victory, while the Privateers fall to 2-2.

Yassine Sakhi poured in a game-high 24 points and four rebounds to lead the Beavers, shooting 10-for-15 from the field in the contest. Senior
Daniel Piszczatowski finished the evening with 11 points. Freshman
Ricardo Dixon had another impressive outing for the Beavers, ending a game-high 11 rebounds, five blocks, seven points, and three assists.

Dashaun Galloway finished the night with five points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Sophomore
Bayame Bah added nine points, nine rebounds, and two points.
After opening the game with a nine-point deficit, the Beavers rallied with a 13-2 scoring run, tying the game at 26-26 with 4:05 left in the first half. Back-to-back baskets late in the half by the Privateers lifted Maritime to a 30-28 lead heading into halftime.
A 9-3 run to start the second half helped the Beavers jump to a four-point lead, 37-33, less than minutes into the period. Another quick run midway through the half helped the Beavers push their lead up to 12 points (46-34) with 13:40 to go.
Maritime chipped into CCNY's lead as a three-pointer by Maritime's Tyler Anderson closed out a 10-4 run for the Privateers, cutting the Beavers lead to three points, 54-51, with 5:56 left in the game.
Three straight unanswered baskets by CCNY helped them build up a nine-point lead, 60-51, with 4:24 remaining. However, Maritime answered back with a late rally, outscoring the Beavers 10-2 to bring the game within one point, 62-61, with 1:45 left in regulations.
With 1:05 on the clock, Maritime's Ryan Donovan banked in a layup to give the Privateers a one-point lead, 63-62. In their next possession, the Beavers responded quickly as Piszczatowski nailed in the eventual game-winner, securing a 64-63 victory for the Beavers.
Next, CCNY returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 19, on the road against the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
