New York, NY - In a historic meeting between two of the oldest public and private collegiate lacrosse programs, The City College of New York faced off against New York City rival Columbia University on Saturday night, dropping a 13-4 decision.
Columbia started the game strong, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. The Beaver's answered back as Justin Salmeron scored the first goal for CCNY on a beautiful bounce shot into the upper corner.
Columbia would tack on another pair of goals before Tyler Miller found the back of the net for Beaver's second goal of the night.
Graduate Student Carlos Cruz-Perez netted the third goal for CCNY off an assist from Miller to trim Columbia's lead to 9-3. Miller netted CCNY's final goal of the evening.
Freshman goalkeeper Maximus Czernisz Czernisz made nine saves in net for the Beavers. Eric Giannaris was a force on face-offs, winning over 50 percent of his draw attempts for the 4th time this season. Sun Wo Kim, Peter Giannaris, Wasf Rehman, and Steven Garcia combined to force ten turnovers on the defensive end.
Next, CCNY rounds out the regular season at home against New York City rival NYU on Sunday, April 24, at Randall's Island - Field 81 at 3:00 p.m.
