New York, NY - After a three-year hiatus, The City College of New York men's lacrosse program held their annual alumni game on Saturday, May 14, at Randall's Island. The program welcomed back over 20 alumni for a friendly competitive game as the current CCNY squad faced off against a team of seasoned alumni.
The first quarter was relatively even, with the current team taking a 3-2 edge into the second period. The current team held a 6-5 advantage over the alumni at halftime. The current team controlled the pace in the second half, executing efficiently in all game phases, securing an 11-5 victory.
Tyler Miller led the offense for CCNY, scoring five goals with two assists. Julian Lam, Carlos Cruz-Perez, and Justin Salmeron added a pair of goals. Maximus Czernisz recorded 13 saves in goal, while Sun Wo Kim was a ground ball machine, picking up eight loose balls.
For the alumni, Ben Variano '20 led the team with multiple goals on the offensive. Rob Palumbo '17 and Giancarlo Zirpolo '21 also added strong performance. Doug Marino '73 threaded a beautiful assist on a Variano goal, while Victor Franco '81 scored a great goal on a fantastic individual effort.
