New York, NY - In front of a jammed-packed and high energetic crowd at the Nat Holman Gymnasium Tuesday night, The City College of New York men's volleyball team defeated Lehman College in three sets in the first round of the 2022 CUNY Athletic Conference Championships. The victory improves the Beavers to 13-6 overall
CCNY won the opening set decisively, 25-13. The Beavers controlled the second, mirroring the first set with a 25-13 victory. Lehman jumped out to an early lead in the third frame, holding a 4-1 lead. An aggressive offense attack by the Beavers helped even the match midway through the set, 16-16. After four lead changes, CCNY closed out the match on a 6-2 scoring run to secure the victory.
Xhulio Myftari led the charge for the Beavers, finishing 18 kills, seven digs, and six services aces.
Utpal Chand had 13 kills and 20 digs for his fifth double-double of the season.
Rahul Sharma finished the night with ten kills and 12 digs.
Freshman
Jeffrey Celis posted a career-high 44 assists, three digs, and a kill. Freshman
Mohamed Elshary chipped in four kills and a pair of blocks, while
Tenzin Tsepak had two kills,
Fred De La Cuadra finished with two digs, and
Edwin Fierros Gaytan registered 11 digs.
Next, CCNY advances to the semifinals of the CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Championships. The Beavers will travel to the No. 2 seeded Baruch College Bearcats on Thursday, Apr. 7, at 6:30 p.m.
