Brooklyn, NY - The City College of New York baseball program's championship run came to an end on Sunday evening, falling to Baruch College, 14-7, in game two of the 2022 CUNY Athletics Conference Championship series at Maimonides Park.
The Bearcats scored the first run on Brian Hwang's RBI single up the middle in the top of the first inning.
The Beavers answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.
Michael Chasanov brought in the first run on an RBI single through the right side, scoring
John Creegan.
Austin Ortiz scored the second run for the Beavers after
Tyler DiBlasi reached on a fielder's choice, lifting CCNY to a one-run lead, 2-1.
Baruch came back with two more runs in the third to regain the lead. Robert Wakely tapped an RBI single to left field, followed by Lombardi's RBI single up the middle to retake the lead, 3-2. With one out in the fourth, Cocozza scored on Pedro Tejada Jr's RBI sacrifice fly-ball to extend their lead, 4-2.
After two scoreless frames, Baruch would tally seven runs on seven hits and two errors, extending their advantage to 11-2.
CCNY nailed three runs off the own in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on first and second,
Jonathan Rivera sent an RBI double to right-center, scoring
Ethan Angress. A fielding error by the Bearcats allowed Creegan to reach home. DiBlasi drove in Rivera for the inning's final run on an RBI single to center field.
Baruch tallied another run in the eighth on Lucius Paradiso's RBI base hit through the left side.
In the bottom of the eighth, CCNY added a run on Rivera's RBI single to second base for the team's seventh run of the day.
The Bearcats closed out the game, adding a pair of runs in the ninth inning, securing a 14-7 victory.
On the mound, freshman
Matthew Kue earned the start for the Beavers, recording a season-high five strikeouts in the loss.
CCNY finished the season with an 8-25 overall record.
