New York, NY - In a highly anticipated rematch of last season's conference championship game, The City College of New York women's soccer defeated John Jay College, 4-3, to open CUNY Athletic Conference play.
With the win, the Beavers move to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in league play. The win marks the Beaver's first win over the Bloodhounds since October 16, 2016.
The Bloodhounds struck first in the match as Zoe Specht tallied a goal three minutes into the contest. In the 14th minute, John Jay doubled their lead with a maker by Nora O'Connor.
In the second, junior Laura Villtoro got the Beavers on the scoreboard, nailing a shot to the back left of the goal in the 58th minute. The goal was her 11th of the season.
Under a minute later (58:38), CCNY found the equalizer in the 59th minute as freshman
Sara Rodriguez netted the game-tying goal.
In the final stretch of the match, junior
Charlotte Foberg delivered the game-winning goal for Beavers, knocking in a shot from long-range in the 85th minute to go ahead 3-2.
In the 88th minute, the Beavers added an insurance goal as sophomore
Karen Pineda scored off a helper from Villatoro, lifting CCNY to a 4-2 advantage.
John Jay managed to scratch a score in the final minute of play.

Next, the Beavers return to action on Monday, October 9, traveling to take on Western Connecticut State at 3:00 p.m.
