West Harrison, NY - The City College of New York baseball team secured their first victories of the season on Sunday, sweeping Yeshiva University in a non-conference doubleheader. The Beavers improve to 2-8 on the season.
Game 1: CCNY 7, Yeshiva 2
With one out in the top of the first, CCNY went up two runs after outfielder
Tyler DiBlasi's base hit allowed
Jonathan Rivera and Joe Cirigliano to score on a throwing error.
The Maccabees answered back in the second inning, scoring an unearned run to cut the Beaver's lead in half, 2-1.
In the third,
Stephen Suprun grew the Beaver's lead with a two-RBI single up the middle, driving home DiBlasi and Cirigliano.
Yeshiva responded again, cutting the Beaver's advantage in half again with a solo home run to left field by Benjamin Brener, 4-2.
The Beavers answered back with a home run of their own in the next inning, with Cirigliano knocking an inside-the-park home run to right field, lifting CCNY to a 5-2 lead. In the seventh, the Beavers added two more runs. Rivera singled to center field, driving in
Eric Romero. Rivera tallied the Beaver's final run on a fielding error.
On the mound, Bradon Paider earned his first win of the season with six strikeouts, allowing only four hits in 7.0 innings.
Game 2: CCNY 7, Yeshiva 1
In the second,
Joe Estrada scored the Beaver's first run on
Mike Savino's RBI fielder's choice. Later in the frame,
John Creegan's RBI walk drove in
Stephen Suprun to put the Beavers ahead 2-0.
Yeshiva tallied their only run of the game in the third inning, scoring a run on an RBI fielder's choice.
In the fifth, sophomore
Michael Chasanov knocked an RBI double to left field, scoring
Victor Murra Schott. Creegan tallied the next run for the Beavers, reaching home on a passed ball. With one out, Estrada ripped a two-RBI single to center field, boosting the Beaver's lead to 6-1. Estrada scored CCNY's final run of the day, reaching home on Suprun's RBI single.
James Dean Johnstone earned his first win of the year on the mound, recording eight strikeouts.
Next, the Beavers return to action on Saturday, Mar. 18, against St. Joseph University - Brooklyn.
