Bronx, NY - The City College of New York baseball team opened their conference series against Lehman on Saturday, splitting a pair of games against Lehman College at home. The Lightning took game one over the Beavers in extra innings, 4-2. In game two, CCNY bounced back with an 18-2 victory.
With the split, CCNY is now 6-11 overall and 2-2 in CUNY Athletic Conference play.
Before the start of game one, Head Coach Steve Macias and the CCNY Baseball program honored the program's graduating seniors, Wellington Gomez, Jonathan Rivera, John Creegan, Ethan Angress, and James Dean Johnstone.
Game One: Lehman 4, CCNY 2
In the third inning, freshman Chris Lamond opened the scoring for the Beavers, driving in one run on a ground-rule double to right field.
Lehman captured the game in the top of the sixth, tallying two runs in the frame.
Senior Ethan Angrees evened the game for the Beavers, knocking an RBI triple to right field and scoring on a throwing error.
After two scoreless two frames, the Lightning scored the two deciding runs in the ninth to take game one, 4-2.
Lamond, Angress, John Creegan each had two hits.
On the mound, James Dean Johnstone reached a career milestone surpassing 100 career strikeouts. Johnstone finished the game with 11 strikeouts, accounting for 108 for his career.
Game Two: CCNY 18, Lehman 2
John Creegan and Jonathan Rivera powered the Beavers in the nightcap, leading the Beavers to an 18-2 victory over the lighting. Creegan went 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs in game two, while Rivera finished 3-for-3 finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs.
Sophomore Brandon Paider went the full seven innings for the complete game improving to 4-1 on the season. He posted four strikeouts and allowed two runs on five hits.
After Lehman opened with two runs in the first frame, the Beavers answered with three in the bottom of the first. After a scoreless second inning, the Beavers scored 10 runs on seven hits in the third frame. CCNY would go on to score five more unanswered runs in the game, scratching four in the fourth inning and one in the sixth.
