New York, NY - The City College of New York men's volleyball team opened postseason play on Tuesday night, defeating the No. 5 seeded Lehman College Lightning in three sets (25-19, 25-13, 27-25) at home in the First Round of the 2023 CUNY Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Championships. The victory improves the Beavers to 14-6 overall.

Lehman jumped out to an early lead in the third frame, holding a 4-1 lead. An aggressive offense attack by the Beavers helped even the match midway through the set, 16-16. After four lead changes, CCNY closed out the match on a 6-2 scoring run to secure the victory.

Junior Jeffrey Celis led the charge for the Beavers with 11 kills and 14 digs, along with four aces and two assists. Freshman Ethan Sherpa had nine kills and four digs. Freshman Ricky Li finished the night with nine kills.

Freshman David Reyes Galvez posted a match-high 34 assists, five digs, two service aces, and two kills. Freshman Prabodh KC chipped in five kills and a pair of blocks, while Edwin Fierros Gaytan registered 13 digs and two assists. Tenzin Tsepak added three kills, three digs, and a block.

Next, CCNY advances to the semifinals of the CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Championships. The Beavers will travel to the top-seeded Hunter College Hawks on Thursday, Apr. 11, at 6:00 p.m.
