New York, NY – The City College of New York baseball team is set to take on Lehman College in the 2023 CUNY Athletic Conference Championship. The Championship best-of-three series begins on Friday, May 12, at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, NY.
Head Coach Steve Macias and the Beavers will look to hoist up the program's first Conference Championship since 1994.

Looking at the Beavers
- The CCNY Beavers clinched their first-ever CUNYAC Regular-Season title and the top seed in the Tournament, entering Saturday's match with a 14-18 overall record.
- The Beavers advanced to the championship game for the second consecutive season, defeating John Jay on Tuesday in the First Round, 15-2.
- On the mound, James Dean Johnstone and Brandon Paider have been the aces for the Beavers this season. Johnstone is 5-3 on the mound this season with a conference-best 4.19 ERA and 56 strikeouts across 62.0 innings of work. Paider owns a conference-best 7-1 record on the rubber, tallying 47 strikeouts in 62.1 innings.
- The Beavers have supplied plenty of firepower on the offensive end this season.. Slugger Jonathan Rivera paces CCNY in batting average (.434), hits (46), RBI (31), and runs scored (31). Senior Ethan Angress has batted .354, with 24 runs, 28 hits, and 14 RBI. Stephen Suprun adds a .352 batting average, recording 32 hits, 20 runs, and 27 RBI. Shortstop John Creegan has tallied 33 hits, 24 runs, and 22 RBI this season for CCNY.
Scouting the Lightning
- The third-seeded Lehman College Lightning (14-3-1) advanced to the Championship with an upset win over Baruch in their First Round matchup on Tuesday.
- Lehman earned the No. 3 seed after finishing 5-7 against CUNYAC foes during the regular season. Ranssel Pinedo leads the Lightning in batting average (.455), hits (40), and RBI (25).
- In Tuesday's win over Baruch, Javaun Smith and Elias Fermin both drove in two RBI, and each scored a run, while catcher Jeremy Santos added a solo homer, and pitcher Randy Polanco came in relief and held Baruch scoreless for the remaining four innings to send Lehman for a chance at its first conference title since 1995.
