New York, NY - The CCNY women's volleyball team opened CUNY Athletic Conference play on Saturday, dropping a pair of matches against Hunter and Brooklyn College in s CUNYAC tri-match hosted by the Hawks.
Match 1: Hunter 3, CCNY 1
The Hawks took the opening set over the Beavers, 25-13. In the set frame, a 7-3 run by the Beavers midway through the set helped CCNY pull out a 25-21 win. Hunter responded in the third set with a 25-12 win and closed out the match with a 25-9 victory in the final set.
Junior Bianka Catral led the Beavers with a season-high 12 kills and six digs in the opener. Junior Viviana Alatorre totaled a match-high 23 assists, along with nine digs. Freshman Rosalynda Russo picked up a season-high 20 digs.
Sophomore Fatimah Coppin had four kills, ten digs, and three service aces. Junior Serena Warner tallied five kills, five digs, and a block, while Arianna Rivas finished with four kills and nine digs.
Match 2: Brooklyn 3, CCNY 0
The Bulldogs took all three sets over the Beavers 25-17, 25-23, and 25-21.
In the finale, Catral had nine kills and six digs. Coppin finished with nine kills and eight digs, while Rivas added five kills and tied for a match-high 12 digs.
Alatorre dished a match-high 27 assists, nine digs, and two aces. Sophomore Nila Tom had four kills, two digs, and a block. Russo finished with 20 digs and three aces.
Next, the Beavers will host St. Joseph's University - Brooklyn in the Home Opener on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
