New York, NY - The City College of New York women's volleyball team opened the 2023 season on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Yeshiva University Maccabees in three sets on the road.
City College took the first set over Yeshiva, 25-12. The Beavers cruised through the second set, outlasting the Maccabees 25-8. In the final frame, CCNY closed the match with a 25-11 win en route to their three-set victory.
Junior Bianka Catral led the Beavers with a match-high seven kills, 10 digs, and five service aces. Junior Michelle Fernandez tallied seven kills and three digs, while Serena Warner finished with six kills in the win. Junior Arianna Rivas finished the afternoon with four kills, nine digs, and three service aces.
Junior Viviana Alatorre dished out a match-high 24 assists and seven services aces. Sophomore Fatimah Coppin picked up a match-high 11 digs and four aces. Sophomore Nila Tom ended with three kills and a solo block.
Next, the Beavers travel to take on New Jersey City University on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 7:00 p.m.
