CCNY Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against SJBK

Staten Island, NY - The City College of New York baseball team split their doubleheader with St. Joseph's University Brooklyn on Friday, falling in game one, 3-2, before winning game two, 9-1.

With the split, the Beavers improve to 3-12 overall.

Game One: SJBK 3, CCNY 2
The Bears scored first in the game, with a run on Matt Arcati's RBI through the left side in the second inning. In the third, the Bears extended their lead, driving in two runs on Miguel Toribio's two-RBI single, 3-0.

CCNY answered with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Freshman Colin Souther drove in the first run on an RBI double to center field. Sophomore Erik Rank followed with an RBI base hit to the center field.

Game Two: CCNY 9, SJBK 1
At the bottom of the first, CCNY uploaded five runs on six hits. With one out, Stephen Suprun knocked in an RBI base hit to center field. In the next at-bat, freshman Jake Brenner singled through the left side, batting in the second run for the Beavers. Next, sophomore Kevin Budzinski lifted a two-RBI double to center field, lifting CCNY a 4-1 lead. Catcher Mike Savino drove in the final run of the frame with an RBI single.

The Beavers added two more in the second inning with back-to-back RBI singles from Brenner and Budzinski, 7-1. Brenner's third hit and RBI of the day came in the fourth inning when he singled to left field to drive home Souther. Junior Michael Chasanov drove in the final run of the afternoon, scoring Bryan Lopez on an RBI sacrifice fly ball.

On the mound, Erik Rank earned the win in 6.0 innings of work, improving to 2-1. He recorded two strikeouts while allowing one run.

Next, CCNY returns to action on Wednesday, March 27, on the road aganist Rutgers-Newark at 3:30 p.m.
