Beavers Battle, Fall to UMass Boston 80–74 at Nat Holman Gymnasium

New York, NY — The City College of New York men's basketball team battled wire-to-wire but came up short in an 80–74 loss to UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon at Nat Holman Gymnasium.

CCNY jumped out to a strong start, building momentum early behind efficient shooting and crisp ball movement. The Beavers led by as many as 21 points midway through the first half and carried a 37–33 advantage into the break, shooting an impressive 56.5 percent from the field and knocking down seven three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes.

UMass Boston responded after halftime, using a decisive second-half surge to flip the game. The visitors outscored CCNY 47–37 in the final period, leaning on offensive rebounding and second-chance opportunities to regain control. UMass Boston finished with 20 second-chance points and held a significant edge on the glass, which proved to be the difference down the stretch.

CCNY was led by freshman Olabanjo Aborisade and senior Justin Morety, who each scored 17 points. Aborisade went 8-of-12 from the field, while Morety added five assists and was aggressive attacking the rim, drawing trips to the free-throw line. Newcomer Abdias Carcamo stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points and seven assists, and senior Michael Bowman chipped in 10 points on an efficient 4-of-5 shooting performance. Senior Kayson Dinkins added nine points, all from beyond the arc.

For UMass Boston, Cameron Perkins poured in a game-high 23 points with six rebounds, while Raphel Laurent added 22 points and 10 rebounds to power the Beacons' comeback.
Despite shooting 55.3 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from three-point range, CCNY was unable to hold off the late push, as turnovers and rebounding woes shifted momentum in the second half.

The Beavers will look to regroup as they travel to the Franklin and Marshall College Invitational on December 29-30 in Lancaster, PA.
