Four Beavers Named to CUNYAC Baseball All-Star Team

New York, NY— The CUNY Athletic Conference announced its 2025 Baseball All-Star Team and Major Award Winners on Tuesday morning. The City College of New York baseball team garnered three All-Star selections and one Sportsmanship Team honoree, as announced by the league office. 

Demetri Zirogiannis, Outfield
Freshman standout Demetri Zirogiannis made an immediate impact for the Beavers in his debut season, starting all 26 games while posting an impressive .351 batting average. At the plate, he recorded 34 hits in 97 at-bats, including nine doubles, one triple, and a conference-leading four home runs, driving in 35 runs and scoring 28 runs. Zirogiannis demonstrated exceptional plate discipline with 13 walks and seven hit-by-pitches, contributing to a stellar .458 on-base percentage and a powerful .588 slugging percentage. Defensively, Zirogiannis was flawless in the field, recording 46 putouts and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, rounding out an all-around impressive freshman campaign.

Kevin Budzinski, CCNY
Junior Kevin Budzinski delivered an outstanding season for the Beavers, earning All-Conference recognition with a team-leading .402 batting average across 25 starts. A consistent presence at the top of the lineup, Budzinski tallied 37 hits in 92 at-bats, including seven doubles and four triples, while scoring 28 runs and driving in 22. He posted an impressive .477 on-base percentage and a .565 slugging percentage, showcasing a balanced combination of contact and speed. Budzinski added 10 walks, was hit by a pitch six times, and struck out only 13 times, demonstrating excellent plate discipline. Defensively, Budzinski anchored the infield at the shortstop position with 24 putouts and 65 assists, finishing with a .918 fielding percentage.

Erik Rank, CCNY
Junior two-way standout Erik Rank delivered a strong all-around season for the Beavers, contributing as a hitter, pitcher, and defender. At the plate, Rank posted a .328 batting average over 27 games (26 starts), collecting 22 hits in 67 at-bats with three doubles, 16 runs scored, and seven RBIs. He added a .357 on-base percentage and a .373 slugging percentage, while drawing two walks and striking out just 17 times. On the mound, Ranks served as a dependable arm, logging 47.1 innings across 11 appearances, including eight starts. He accumulated a 7-1 win-loss record with a 6.65 ERA, striking out 41 batters and holding opponents to a .289 average. He also earned a complete-game victory and a save. Defensively, Rank anchored his position with 28 putouts and 36 assists, committing just three errors to finish with a .955 fielding percentage, underscoring his reliability all over the diamond.

Eric Marmolejos, OF
Junior Eric Marmolejos exemplified dedication and team spirit throughout the season, earning recognition on the CUNYAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Marmolejos contributed positively off the bench and in the dugout. In six appearances, he registered six at-bats, drawing one walk while providing flawless defense with two putouts and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
