CCNY Men’s Basketball Earns Statement Road Win at Baruch, 71-61

New York, NY — The City College of New York men's basketball team delivered one of its strongest performances of the season Wednesday night, earning a wire-to-wire 71–61 road victory over Baruch College in CUNY Athletic Conference action at the ARC Arena.

CCNY (2-12, 2-3 CUNYAC) came out sharp and set the tone early, building a commanding 39–27 halftime lead behind efficient offense, tough rebounding, and disciplined defense. The Beavers never trailed, holding off every second-half push from Baruch (6-10, 3-2 CUNYAC) to secure a crucial conference win.

Senior Justin Morety led all scorers with 20 points, adding seven rebounds and four assists while playing 38 minutes. He was joined by a balanced CCNY attack that saw four players score in double figures. Sophomore Chris Popotte posted a strong all-around effort with 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and three steals, recording a double-double.

Senior Michael Bowman knocked down three three-pointers on his way to 12 points, while freshman Olabanjo Aborisade added 10 points and five rebounds. Freshman Abdias Carcamo provided a spark with nine points, eight rebounds, and four assists in just 21 minutes.

CCNY shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, building its early cushion, and finished the game shooting 43.3 percent overall. The Beavers controlled the interior, outscoring Baruch 32–22 in the paint, and capitalized on turnovers, scoring 16 points off miscues. CCNY also held a 41–42 rebounding battle nearly even despite Baruch's second-half surge.

Baruch was led by Jack Gordon's 20 points and Peter Douvres' 19 points, but the Bearcats struggled offensively for much of the night, shooting just 30.8 percent from the field. CCNY's defense limited Baruch to 18.5 percent shooting from three-point range and forced 13 turnovers.

Despite Baruch outscoring CCNY 34–32 in the second half, the Beavers remained composed, hitting key free throws down the stretch and making timely defensive stops to seal the victory.

CCNY will look to build on the momentum by hosting Medgar Evers College on Friday, January 16, at the Nat Holman Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
