Anderson Homers Late, but CCNY Drops 10–4 Decision to Brandeis

Davenport, Fla. — The City College of New York baseball team continued its Spring Trip Wednesday afternoon, in game two of their three-game series against Brandeis University, falling to the Judges, 10–4, in the RussMatt College Baseball Invitational.

The game was a pitcher's duel early, as both sides were held scoreless through the first three innings. Brandeis struck first in the fourth with a sacrifice fly, but CCNY answered right back in the fifth. A bases-loaded walk by sophomore outfielder Demetri Zirogiannis brought in the tying run before the Beavers took a 2–1 lead moments later on a balk.

Brandeis responded in the sixth to even the score, then broke the game open with a decisive seven-run stretch across the seventh and eighth innings, capitalizing on extra-base hits and defensive miscues.

CCNY showed late fight in the ninth inning when James Anderson launched a two-run home run to left, scoring senior Eric Marmolejos and trimming the deficit to 10–4. It marked Anderson's first homer of the season.

Senior Rich Cirigliano led the Beavers offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, while senior John Spallin and junior Jake Brenner each collected a hit. On the mound, senior right-handed pitcher Erik Rank worked 6.1 innings in the start, striking out four before taking the loss.

The Beavers resume play on Friday, closing out the series against the Judges at 4:15 p.m.
