New York, NY - The City College of New York Department of Athletics is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Christina Kennedy, DAT, LAT, ATC, as its new Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
In her role at CCNY, Dr. Kennedy will oversee all sports medicine operations, with a focus on athlete health, injury prevention, strength and conditioning excellence in rehabilitation, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support student-athlete well-being and performance.
"We are thrilled to welcome Christina to CCNY Athletics," said Duane Bailey, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. "Her experience at the professional and collegiate levels, combined with her leadership and athlete-first philosophy, will elevate our sports medicine program and directly benefit our student-athletes."
Dr. Kennedy joins CCNY with more than a decade of elite athletic training and sports medicine leadership experience across professional, collegiate, and secondary school athletics. Most recently, she served as Head Athletic Trainer for the WNBA's Washington Mystics from 2022–2025, where she led all medical and performance care operations for the organization. In that role, she worked closely with coaching staffs, front office leadership, league officials, and medical professionals to ensure comprehensive, athlete-centered care at the highest level of competition.
Prior to her time with the Mystics, Dr. Kennedy held key roles at Temple University, the NBA G League (Delaware 87ers), and St. Mark's Catholic High School, gaining extensive experience in injury management, rehabilitation, return-to-play protocols, compliance, emergency action planning, and staff supervision. Her background spans both team-based and clinical settings, enabling her to bring a holistic, modern approach to sports medicine administration.
Dr. Kennedy holds a Doctorate in Athletic Training from A.T. Still University, a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Seton Hall University, and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from SUNY Cortland. She is a Board-Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer in New York, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., and holds advanced certifications in functional movement screening, corrective exercise, dry needling, fascial manipulation, and sports manual therapy.
