New Rochelle, NY — The City College of New York baseball team delivered a dominant offensive performance on Senior Day, defeating St. Joseph's University Brooklyn, 16–6, on Thursday afternoon at Flowers Park.
At the conclusion of the game, CCNY honored its senior class of John Spallin, Alexander Rozon, Eric Marmolejos, Rich Cirigliano, and Erik Rank for their contributions to the program.
The Beavers wasted no time making the day memorable, erupting for 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning. After falling behind 2–0 in the top half, CCNY responded with an explosive rally fueled by timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and capitalizing on wild pitches. RBI contributions from Erik Rank, Rich Cirigliano, Eric Marmolejos, Gerard Molinaro, and Jake Brenner highlighted the inning, while Demetri Zirogiannis added to the surge by swiping home as part of the offensive outburst.
CCNY continued to add on throughout the game, with Brenner delivering a sacrifice fly in the third inning and Molinaro driving in a run in the sixth. Spallin capped the scoring in the seventh with an RBI fielder's choice.
At the plate, the Beavers tallied 14 hits and showed strong discipline with 11 walks. Rank led the way with a three-hit, two-RBI performance, while Spallin scored three runs and added two hits. Molinaro and Persampire each collected two hits, and Cirigliano drove in three runs, including a key bases-clearing triple in the first inning.
On the mound, Samuel Puttock earned the win, tossing five innings while allowing two runs and striking out five. Noel Vasquez worked through the sixth inning, and Colton Bausenwein closed the door with a scoreless seventh. St. Joseph's mounted a brief rally in the sixth inning, scoring four runs, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as CCNY maintained control throughout.
With the win, the team improves to 8-15 overall.
Next, the Beavers return to action on Saturday, April 18, hosting John Jay College at Flowers Park. First is set for 2:00 pm.
