New Rochelle, NY - The City College of New York baseball team put together a complete day at the plate and on the mound, sweeping a CUNYAC doubleheader from John Jay on Saturday afternoon at Flowers Park. CCNY rallied late for a 6–5 win in Game 1 before erupting offensively in a 12–4 victory in Game 2 to improve to 11–15 on the season.
Game 1: CCNY 6, John Jay 5
CCNY battled back and forth with John Jay in the opener before walking it off in the seventh inning. After trailing 5–3 in the sixth,
Frank Cundari delivered the biggest swing of the game, blasting a two-run home run to center to tie things up.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Beavers loaded the bases and
Rich Cirigliano came through with a clutch RBI single to right field, scoring
Matthew Hartmann for the game-winning run.
Gerard Molinaro and
Jason Roser each scored twice, while
John Spallin added an RBI double. CCNY collected 10 hits and showed patience at the plate with five walks.
On the mound,
Armani Smith kept CCNY within striking distance despite allowing five runs (four earned) over five innings.
Tristan Bausenwein was dominant in relief, tossing two scoreless innings to earn the win and shut the door on John Jay.
Game 2: CCNY 12, John Jay 4
The nightcap was all CCNY, as the offense exploded for 12 runs on 12 hits to complete the sweep.
Cundari stayed hot, launching another two-run homer in the second inning to open the scoring.
Jason Roser followed with a solo shot in the third, and CCNY never looked back.
A massive five-run fourth inning broke the game open. Key RBI hits from
James Anderson,
John Spallin, and Molinaro, along with aggressive baserunning and defensive miscues by John Jay, helped the Beavers stretch the lead to 10–3.
Cirigliano capped off a strong game with a triple and two RBIs, while
Erik Rank contributed across the board with three hits, an RBI triple, and a complete-game effort on the mound.
Rank was in full control, going all seven innings while allowing just four runs (three earned) with no walks, earning his second win of the season.
CCNY's offense tallied 22 hits and 18 runs across the doubleheader, showcasing depth and timely hitting throughout the lineup.
Next, the Beavers return to action on Monday, traveling to take on John Jay at 7:30 p.m. at Fordham University.
