NEW YORK, N.Y. — The City College of New York women's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the 2026 season Tuesday night, sweeping Old Westbury, 3-0, at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
The Beavers controlled the match from the opening serve, earning victories of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-15 to improve to 1-3 on the season.
CCNY established an early rhythm in the opening set, hitting .146 as a team and recording 11 kills to take the frame, 25-18. The Beavers continued to build momentum in the second set, overcoming a competitive Old Westbury squad to secure a 25-22 victory.
CCNY put the match away in the third set, pulling away for a 25-15 win while holding the Panthers to a -.138 hitting percentage.
Senior
Rachael Reyes led the Beavers offensively with nine kills, while sophomore
Jia Hua Liu added seven kills and junior
Ivanna Zamora Sanchez contributed six. Liu also delivered a team-high four service aces, while Zamora Sanchez added two aces.
Freshman
Yamilci Izquierdo orchestrated the CCNY offense with 16 assists, while sophomore
Danuzia Caixeta Palmer added seven assists. Izquierdo also helped guide a Beavers attack that finished with 30 kills compared to 21 for Old Westbury.
Defensively, senior
Rosalynda Russo anchored the back row with a match-high 14 digs. Reyes added 10 digs, while Zamora Sanchez finished with eight.
The Beavers also received contributions at the net from Zamora Sanchez and
Danna Toribio, who each recorded a block.
As a team, CCNY held Old Westbury to a .000 hitting percentage while finishing with a .091 attack percentage. The Beavers also held advantages in kills (30-21), aces (13-5), assists (29-17) and digs (56-55).
