The City College of New York women's fencing team competed at the Vassar Fencing Invitational on Sunday. In the first round they fell 17-10 to Wellesley. Then in the second round, City was narrowly edged 14-13 by West Point. In round three, the Beavers fell 20-7 to Cornell and then fell 21-6 to FDU. City was overcome by Sacred Heart in their 19-8 loss. In the final round of the day, City fell 15-12 to Tufts.
Judine Watkis had the best day for the Beavers as she went 17-1 in epee, with her sole loss coming in the seventh round against Sacred Heart. Both Wynee Van der Veen and
Klarissa Armada went 13-5 in foil.
Anna Kornak went 13-5 in epee during the invitational.
Round One (vs. Wellesley)Domica Robers picked up the only victory in sabre over Barowsky. In foil,
Klarissa Armada went undefeated to give the team three points. Wynne Van der Veen went 2-1 to continue to add points for the Beavers.
Judine Watkis went undefeated in epee against Wellesley.
Anna Kornak picked up one victory in epee. City fell 17-10 to Wellesley.
Round Two (vs. West Point)The Beavers were unable to pick up a victory in the sabre against West Point. Armada continued her undefeated day in the foil, while Van der Veen also went undefeated. Watkis picked up three more victories on the day along with Kornak.
Dernae Rowe had one victory in epee to help City. CCNY fell 14-13 to West Point.
Round Three (vs. Cornell)Van der Veen picked up only one victory for the team in foil. Armada took her first losses of the day after going undefeated in the first two rounds. Watkis continued her undefeated day by going 3-0 against Cornell in epee. Kornak picked up two victories of her own during epee, while Rowe picked up one victory. The Beavers fell 20-7 to Cornell.
Round Four (vs. FDU)Van der veen picked and Armada picked up two points for the Beavers in foil.Watkis went undefeated in round four in epee to keep CCNY in the hunt for the victory. Kornack picked up two victories of her own in the epee. City fell 21-6 against FDU.
Round Seven (vs. Sacred Heart)Like in the fourth round against FDU, Van der veen and Armada both picked up two points a piece in foil. Watkis picked up her first loss of the day in epee after picking up two victories on the first two strips. Kornak also added two points for the Beavers in her victories in epee. CCNY fell 19-8 to Sacred Heart.
Round Eight (vs. Tufts)Van der veen and Armada both went undefeated in foil to give the Beavers six points. Watkis went right back to her first four rounds and went undefeated in epee. Kornak also went undefeated in epee against Tufts. City fell 15-12 to Tufts.
The Beavers will head back to Vassar on Sunday, November 22 for the Matt Lampell Invitational.
