The City College of New York men's volleyball team has earned the #5 seed for the CUNYAC Tournament. As the #5 seed, City will travel to play #4 seeded York College on Tuesday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m.
While the win-loss column when facing York College this season is 0-2, the Beavers have put up a fight against the Cardinals.
In the first meeting the Beavers fell 3-1 (37-35, 25-20, 17-25, 25-23). In that matchup, the Beavers boasted a .212 attack percentage, which is the best attack percentage in four-set matches, and third best overall. The team notched 55 kills compared to York's 50. CCNY was able to pick up 68 digs compared to the Cardinals 46.
Sebastjano Aga recorded 34 kills, his second highest total on the season. Along with Aga's kills,
Oleksandr Boychuk dished out 49 assists in the loss.
Later in the season, again, the Beavers fell 3-1 (25-27, 25-12, 25-15, 25-15). City was able to hold a .143 attack percentage, but that would not be enough as York recorded a .381 attack percentage. Again, Aga led the Beavers with 31 kills, his third highest total on the season. This time York will tally 39 digs compared to City's 19.
Aga leads NCAA Division III with 4.55 kills per set and 5.31 points per set. His 0.56 aces per set also rank 13
th in the nation, while his 2.67 digs per set is 15
th. Boychuk is also ranked 58
th in aces per set (0.39). His 7.11 assists per set is ranked 46
th. As a team, the Beavers have ranked consistently in the top five in digs per set, even being number one in the nation for a couple of weeks. Going into the tournament, they are ranked fourth with 11.45 digs per set.
The winner of the quarterfinal match will play in the semifinal match on Friday, April 8 at Baruch College. The winner will face the winner of #1 Baruch vs. #8 Staten Island.
