Poughkeepsie, NY - On Sunday, the CCNY women's fencing team participated in the 2018 Matt Lampell Invitational, hosted by Vassar College. As a team, the Beavers earned victories over Vassar College (B Team) and Yeshiva University.
The Beavers competed in seven rounds, facing off against Vassar, Army West Point, TCNJ, Drew, RIT and Yeshiva.
In the fifth round, CCNY earned its first victory of the day against Vassar (B Team), defeating the Brewers 16-11. Junior
Hannah Contreras, sophomore
April Vargas, and senior
Nemesys Perez earned a 6-3 foil win by picking up two wins apiece. The team also garnered a sweep in the Sabre weapon.
In the eighth round against Yeshiva, an 8-1 advantage in the Sabre weapon behind
Lia Castillo and
Nathalie Ceballos, along with a 4-2 win in the Foil weapon and a 5-4 victory in the Epee to a 19-8 overall victory lead CCNY to a 17-7 overall victory over the Maccabees.
Behind another strong performance by Contreras and Perez, the Beavers also won the Foil weapon against TCNJ in a 16-11 loss.
CCNY returns to the strip on Sunday, Dec. 2 in Ewing, NJ at the NIWFA Christmas Invitational.
