CCNY Takes Part In West Point Invitational

WEST POINT, NY – The City College of New York women's fencing team was back in action for the first time in more than a month on Saturday afternoon at the Army West Point Invitational.  Participating in their first day-long, multi-match tournament of the season, the Beavers went 1-6 on the day, capping the event with a convincing 21-5 win over Hunter.

CCNY began the tournament with a 26-1 loss to Stevens, then fell to the Royal Military College of Canada by a 24-3 count.  After dropping a 17-7 decision against Detroit, the Beavers suffered a 25-2 defeat against Cleveland State. CCNY then lost to Drew (26-1) and Navy (22-5) before beating Hunter in its final matchup.

Yanelle Serrano (Bronx, NY) and Katherine Scardino (Rochester, NY) were CCNY's top individual performers.  Serrano earned six sabre victories, while Scardino won five of her bouts with the epee.

After a two-week break, CCNY returns to competition on Feb. 8, when the Beavers head to Teaneck, NJ for the FDU Invitational.
