TEANECK, NJ – The City College of New York women's fencing team returned to action on Saturday at the FDU Invitational.  The Beavers went 2-4 in the event, earning wins against Fairleigh Dickinson and Hunter.
After opening the day with a 15-12 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson, CCNY fell to NYU (27-0) and Wagner (21-6).  The Beavers dropped an 18-9 decision to Drew, but captured the sabre competition 5-4, with 
Yanelle Serrano (Bronx, NY) winning her final bout for the clincher.  CCNY then defeated Hunter by a score of 22-5 before concluding the event with a 23-4 loss to Lafayette.
April Vargas (Brooklyn, NY) was the Beavers' top overall performer with five wins on the day.  Serrano and 
Ran Liu (New York, NY) both recorded four wins, while 
Katherine Scardino (Rochester, NY) was victorious three times.  In addition, 
Nathalie Ceballos (New York, NY) and 
Ruth Redfield (New York, NY) notched two wins apiece.
Up next for CCNY is the EWFC Team/Individual Championships at Hunter College on Feb. 16.
