CCNY Men's Track & Field Leads After Day One of 2022 CUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

New York, NY - The City College of New York men's track and field team opened competition on Saturday morning at the 2022 CUNY Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at Icahn Stadium. 

Due to the inclement weather, the remainder of the championships (field events) will resume on Thursday, May 12, at Icahn Stadium. Meet time will be announced at a later date.

Battling in rainy conditions all morning and afternoon, the Beavers, the nine-time defending conference champions, lead the pack after one day with 153 points. Lehman, the co-champion in 2019, is in second with 139 points, followed by Hunter in third with 115.

On the men's side, CCNY claimed eight events, including seven individual competitions and one relay.

Sophomore Habibu Gado led the Beavers with four individual first-place finishes. He ran to gold in the 100-meter dash (12.06), 200-meter dash (24.51), and 400-meter dash (51.81) and leaped to the top mark in the long jump (5.81 meters). 

Senior Jules Day achieved the golden double, running to first-place performances in the men's 1500 and 800-meter runs. He clocked times of 4:44.42 and 2:14.24 in the respective events. He also took second in the 400m dash (54.31).

Freshman Adam Tarsia took home gold in the 3000m steeplechase (13:08.52) and placed second in the 5000m run (18:14.97). Senior Amilcar Alfaro-Martell closed out his career at CCNY with a pair of top-five finishes. He earned silver in the 10,000m run, running a personal-best time of 39:30.75. In the 5000m run, he took fourth overall (19:26.08). Freshman Christian Rasmussen earned a pair of top-five placings, taking fourth in the 10,000m (40:54.46) and fifth in the 5,000m (20:41.78).

Freshman Antonio Oliviera-Nurse led the field in the 400m hurdles, winning the event in 1:06.50. He also finished third in the 110m hurdles (22.35). Freshman Tyler Gaston recorded sixth-place finishes in the men's shot put (8.77m) and javelin throw (26.79m).

In the relays, the Beavers 4x400m relay team of Gado, Kyle Byron, Oliviera-Nurse, and Day combined for a first-place finish, running 3:51.49. CCNY's 4x100m relay squad of Temitope Adegbenro, Oliviera-Nurse, Austin Harilall, and Gado placed third overall (48.04).
